It's been a fair few weeks, so I thought I'd say hey ...
Not quite sure why I'm categorising these, cos work is pretty much my life - but nontheless, I bloody love my job, so I cannot complain. Soo, since we last spoke, we had our big Future Sound of Nottingham competition, which saw six ace local acts play the most famous stage in Notts, and it was something truly incredible to be a part of. If you live in Notts, have a gander at Freeview Channel 8 (Notts TV) cos they're showing a song by each artist on there on a show called Noise Floor, and you'll get to see just how awesome the acts were.
Also in the Nusic world, as of today we're on our Summer school tour, where we're taking the incredibly talented musicians that are Joel Baker (pictured above) and Noah to several schools around Notts, getting 'em to play a few songs, do a Q+A, plus my good old boss Mark does what he's best at - talking! Words of wisdom of course...
In the LeftLion world, we're hard at work prepping for our new issue which comes out on August 1st and is shaping up to be a cracking mag if I do say so myself. Some proper interesting pieces in this issue, and I can't wait for you all to see it!
My life is music, so anyone that knows me will know that I can't go five minutes without ranting on about which artists I'm loving at the minute. First, I have to big up the fella I mentioned previously, Joel Baker. In the past six months he's become one of my most listened to artists of the past few years (or so Last.FM tells me), and I really can't get enough of his stuff. Incredibly soulful, slick as **** production, and his songwriting is sweeeet. His latest EP Every Vessel, Every Vein is definitely in my top three releases of the year so far. You can cop it HERE. He also does some incredible covers, and if you don't feel like forking out a few quid, he did an ace EP's worth of them which you can get for free HERE. Here's his ridiculous (in a good way) cover of Kendrick Lamar...
Besides work, I'd just like to extend the thanks I put out in my last blog post. I feel really grateful that this past few months I've been surrounded by so many amazing people, and I've had so many good times. My parents have been incredible to me as per usual, and I swear they mean more to me than anyone could ever know. Friend wise - even in just this past week, the Ronika gig, the Nottingham Waterfront Festival and Ady Sulieman Rescue Rooms show proved to me how incredible the community is here in Notts. I honestly feel I can rock up to pretty much any event now, and see either someone I know, or make new friends, and that feels really good.
Speaking of the Nottingham Waterfront Festival - it was an incredible experience. I saw so many amazing local artists, the weather was great - oh, and I did my first on camera interviews... ahhh!
In all seriousness, I'm quite happy. They all went well, and I didn't feel awkward in front of a camera at all. Maybe it's cos I talk so much? Who knows. All I know is I want to thank I'm Not From London and Audacious Face for setting it all up, The Canalhouse for just being a general badass venue with awesome staff; and of course all the people who made the experience so enjoyable for me! Whilst we wait for these interviews to come out, have a look at just a few of the lovely people I had the pleasure of spending the day with...
Well that's pretty much all I've gotta say right now peeps. There's loads going off at the minute, and I'm enjoying every second of it. I've upped my social media game recently and started using it like a proper music journo should - so if you don't mind giving me a cheeky follow on Twitter @SamNahirny, and Instagram @SamNahirny (see what I did there?) it would be much appreciated.
Alright, peace out. Enjoy every minute of your life. I haven't become a hippy, I've just realised how great life can be when you appreciate it.
